THE CONCEPT

Lake Lugano Rowing

The peace and extension of the crosswinds-free Gulf of Capalago-Riva San Vitale, a large unbuilt ground by the lake in Melano (made available by the Società Anonima Tannini Ticinesi) and the easy access by public transport create the ideal conditions for a 2’000 m rowing regatta with a large number of participants.

The project finally allowed the Ticino to propose again after 20 years a National Regatta on a classic distance for Swiss and foreign clubs, which we hope will become a recurring appointment in the rowing calendar.

GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION

The logistical situation is optimal for accessibility with public transport too, and is compatible with the organisation of a regatta respecting the health rules also in a moderate pandemic context.

The regatta-ground is only 600 meters away from the rail station Maroggia-Melano, where many trains stops which stops for example also in Mendrisio, Capolago, Melide, Paradiso and Lugano. You can find an excerpt of the train schedule (valid in February 2022) hereorario_Maroggia_Melano

THE RACE FIELD

  • Possibility of 6-8 lanes with 4 buoy lines (semi-alban system)
  • The lanes are well protected from the winds from the east and West, while the winds from the south and the north are parallel to the lanes

  • Starting from and returning to the land permit ideal boot rotation (boarding-warming-racing-cooling—landing)
  • enough space along the shore for two docks (for boarding and for landing) with easy access from the boat area
